Judges

The Modern Quilt Show Australia is proud to announce the judging panel for 2026

Tania Tanti

Bold colour, hand-painted fabric, surface embellishment and a light-hearted touch of humour: all trademarks of Tania Tanti’s award-winning quilts and textile art. Her work is imbued with a sense of multi-dimensionality, springing from a deep creative drive, guided by curiosity, play, and a willingness to see where the fabric leads. She reimagines traditional quilting into contemporary works full of energy and emotion: where creativity meets cloth.

Wendy Nutt

Wendy takes the simplest of ideas, and with a few pieces of fabric (recycled scraps, upcycled haberdashery, domestic textiles: whatever is on hand!), she creates quilts and art full of colour, texture and life. She doesn’t necessarily set out to make a quilt, but with her spontaneous response to random stimuli, one may probably ensue… Whatever the inner workings of her mind, there’s no doubt Wendy’s work is successful. She has won multiple awards, in Australia and internationally; and has also succeeded in exhibiting overseas with The Modern Quilt Guild, SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Association) and an invitational show in China in 2020.

Belinda von Mengersen

Associate Professor Belinda von Mengersen cannot remember a time when she was not stitching and working with textiles. Textiles are an indelible part of her life. Belinda is a visual artist and academic who completed a PhD in contemporary stitch and was fortunate to spend time studying at Goldsmiths College, in London. She curated an Ararat Gallery TAMA and NETS Victoria touring exhibition called ‘Slipstitch’ and regularly writes about Australian textiles in contemporary textile art practice. Belinda has dual roles as Discipline Lead for Textiles Technologies and Campus Dean at the ACU campus in Strathfield, NSW.
