History

Australia’s first Modern Quilt Show was founded and presented in Berry NSW during May 2014 by Wollongong Modern Quilt Guild. The following year Modern Quilt Show Australia 2015 was once again hosted by Wollongong MQG, this time in Kiama.

2016 saw the show hosted by Sydney MQG in Glebe, then again the following year at the lovely, light-filled Petersham Town Hall.

Realising that sharing the workload would lead to a stronger show, Wollongong and Sydney Modern Quilt Guilds teamed together in 2019, and the show returned to the beautiful seaside town of Kiama in August that year.

Our vision is to create a truly national biennial show, and eventually see the event hosted by the various Modern Quilt Guilds of Australia. But following our Covid-enforced hiatus Sydney and Wollongong MQGs are joining forces again to rebuild the momentum, and we’re heading to a new venue for the sixth MQSA in March 2026.
